[birth story]

A quick version of my birth story…I was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night. They started giving me cytotec thru my iv. It’s supposed to soften your cervix and sometimes brings on minor contractions & dilating. Well fortunately for me it started me dilating more. When I got to the hospital I was still about 1cm. But my cervix was still not all the way open so this was where the cytotec was supposed to come into play. Since I was dilating great with the cytotec they didn’t give me the patocin until Thursday night around 9pm or so (was supposed to be Thursday morning). But they gave me the patocin Thursday night and at the rate I was going they thought the baby would be here around 10am-12pm on Friday. But the patocin really brought on hard labor. My water shortly broke after I was given the patocin so I was excited that he broke it on his own. It was a very strange feeling like alright what is going on I’m not peeing but this won’t stop. Haha. Gross but that’s what it was like. I was given an epidural around 3am because my contractions were so painful that I was ready for some relief. It maybe worked for an hour then I needed another doce. 4 doces later and the epidural wasn’t working & homegirl was screaming! I don’t know if it was how it was put in or if it was just me. It didn’t work on me so I was feeling everything as if I was having a natural delivery. Around 5-6am (if I can remember correctly the whole morning was a bit of a blur) they had me start pushing. I really couldn’t not push. The feeling just comes to you and you have no choice but to push. It’s the baby’s way of saying I’m ready! So the pushing began and around 7am I was exhausted. Way too exhausted to push anymore but I was in a lot of pain. So the doctor came in and said I was still only 9cm dilated, my cervix is still a little bit in the way and at this rate it could be another hour of pushing. Did I want to continue or do a c-section? I instantly chose the c-section because #1 I could hardly even push anymore & #2 The epidural wasn’t working. I wanted relief & quick plus I wanted to meet my son! So about an hour later I was in the OR. I was still working through the contractions while the doctors & nurses were preparing for me to go in. But I finally got into the OR - got my spinal - which did work & little Brody came into the world at 8:37am! He was out of me within 5 minutes of them cutting me open. The surgery was maybe 40 minutes. Wasn’t long at all. The c-section was great. Recovery has been okay. I mean it’s major surgery so I obviously won’t be better overnight. But the nurses did an amazing job of caring for me and since I’ve been home I’ve been taking it easy.
The pain was the absolute worst but the easiest thing to forget. The second I saw my baby I started crying. It’s an overwhelming feeling of happiness and everything else really just disappeared. I’m so in love with my little man & every day just gets more amazing with him in my life <3
